Jubilant Wakefield Wildcats chiefs say the club’s future is secure after victory in a planning battle over a new stadium.

Government chiefs have ruled that a 12,000 seater community stadium can be built in Stanley as part of a 100-acre business park set to create 2,000 jobs, which would see them move out of their current Belle Vue home.

Wildcats chief executive James Elston, said: “This is fantastic news and is a decision that provides security for the club’s long-term future.”

Wakefield MP Mary Creagh said: “Congratulations to all the Wildcats’ fans and everyone who has worked so hard to make the stadium a reality and to secure the future of the club.”
