Weymouth Football Club’s relocation plans have suffered a blow after proposals to build up to 170 homes on the site of their existing stadium were rejected by a council.
The club’s current home at the Bob Lucas Stadium would be redeveloped, but the application was rejected by West Dorset District Council.
The move would have seen the Southern Premier side relocate to an area near Lodmoor tip, a move of roughly three miles.
However, Wessex Delivery LLP, which was formed with the purpose of creating a new community stadium for the Terras, said the refusal was “exactly as we anticipated” and remained committed to the project.
“The team will continue to work through the official process in order to achieve a positive outcome”, a statement on their website said.
