WATFORD TO RENAME EAST STAND AFTER SIR ELTON JOHN

Watford are to rename their east stand at Vicarage Road after former chairman and president Sir Elton John.

The famous pop star will return to the Hornets ground for the first time in four years on Saturday, when the stand will be unveiled before the team take on Wigan Athletic.

The club have recently named one of their stands after former manager Graham Taylor, who alongside John, led Watford from the old Fourth Division to runners-up in the First Division during his first managerial stint.

The stand was completed last Boxing Day, and naming the structure after the music icon has been on the cards for several months. The 3,000-seater stand has cost the club £4.4m and increases the stadium's capacity to more than 20,000.
