Wasps have confirmed they will implement a hybrid playing surface at the Ricoh Arena in time for the 2015/16 season.

The Rugby Union outfit completed their 100 per cent acquisition of the stadium earlier this month, having announced in October that they will share the ground with Coventry City for the foreseeable future.

Wasps play their first game at their new home next month, and have taken the decision to install an artificial pitch in the hope of sustaining the playing surface for the combined interests of themselves, and their football counterparts.

A statement from Wasps read: "We recognise the challenges with the pitch and have sought to address this immediately.

"Wasps appreciate the importance of ensuring the playing surface at the Ricoh Arena is in first class condition for every match (both football and rugby) and have therefore taken the decision to install a new pitch at the end of this season."
