USFL HOPEFULS TO BUY RUBBER BOWL

The University of Akron is set to sell the Rubber Bowl stadium to a marketing company that plan for it to become home a United States Football League franchise.

Team 1 Marketing of Canton will pay $38,000 for the 73-year-old seven acre facility which Akron played in since its opening until 2009 when the Zips moved to the on-campus InfoCision Stadium.

It is the intentions of the marketing firm to purchase one of the eight future United States Football League teams and be based out of the stadium once renovated.

The Rubber Bowl was built by Works Progress Administration in 1939.
