The unfinished stadium due to host the opening match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup has held its final test event with no major problems.
However, just 37,000 people attended a Brazilian league match between Corinthians and Batafogo at the Itaquerao stadium, in Sao Paulo.
The Arena Corinthians venue is expected to host around 68,000 spectators for the World Cup opener between Brazil and Croatia on Thursday 12th June.
Some fans complained of difficulties accessing the venue because of heavy traffic and long delays clearing security.
Tiago Paes, the local organising committee’s operations manager, said: “We are certain that everything will be ready. We have a week and a half of work, but all is on track to host the opener.”
This, the second of two test events at the Itaquerao, follows a match on 18th May. Chronic delays in construction forced FIFA to accept just two test games at the Itaquerao, rather than the desired three.
