It wasn't a good weekend for floodlight operators as there were two high-profile blackouts.

On Saturday, Manchester United's Premier League clash with Fulham was delayed just before half-time as the Craven Cottage lights went out. The players were taken into the tunnel while the issue was resolved.

The odd incident was repeated on Sunday at the Superdome during the National Football League's Super Bowl. The game, which the Baltimore Ravens went on to win 34-31 against the San Francisco 49ers, was delayed for 35 minutes in the third quarter. The power failure didn't only take out the stadium lights but broadcasting sound was also wiped out.
