SINGAPORE NATIONAL STADIUM HOSTS FIRST SPORTING EVENT

The new National Stadium in Singapore hosted its first major sporting event over the weekend.

The 55,000-seater Singapore Sports Hub opened its doors to the World Club 10s Rugby, a tournament won by The Blues of New Zealand.

Costing approximately 1.87 billion Singapore dollars, the venue has a retractable roof and a localised cooling technology to combat hot weather conditions.

Mr Low Teo Ping, President of the Singapore Rugby Union, said, “When I stepped in here, it was really ‘wow’. Things have actually fallen into place very nicely over the past few weeks.

"The pitch is similar to that of Twickenham and Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom. Quality-wise, it is definitely one of the best.”
