PLYMOUTH LAND DEAL GIVEN APPROVAL

A vital land deal in the £50m redevelopment of Plymouth Argyle's Home Park has been approved by council leaders.

The city council's cabinet have sanctioned the transfer of just over an acre of land next to Home Park to the ground's developer, Akkeron, to make the refurbishment “viable”.

In return, the council hope the ground's revamp, which includes a new grandstand, cinema, ice rink and hotel, will create 400 new jobs and 600 building jobs.

Councillor Mark Lowy, cabinet member for finance, said: "This is effectively a restructure of an existing lease that enables the developer to secure finance and, by doing this, we are opening the doors to hundreds of jobs and the prospect of great new facilities."
