Two Belfast stadia - Windsor Park and Casement Park - are set to undergo major redevelopment work after being given the green light.

The Irish Football Association has been given approval by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure for £31 million worth of funding for Windsor Park, home to the Northern Ireland national side and Linfield.

Capacity at the ground will be raised from just under 13,000 to 18,000, as well as two new stands being built and two refurbished, in an extensive modernisation of the venue.

The total bill is expected to peak at £35m, with the IFA making up the £4m discrepancy.

Two and a half miles west lies Casement Park - home to Antrim GAA - which has been granted planning permission to expand its capacity.

It will become a 38,000 all-seater stadium, increasing from its current limit of 32,500 which is mostly terracing.

Construction work is expected to begin in spring 2014 and will be completed before the start of the 2016 Ulster Championships.
