The development of Northampton Town's East Stand at their Sixfields Stadium home will not be completed in time for the start of The Football League season on Saturday 9th August.

Redevelopment work at the ground has been taking place throughout the close-season and new floodlights are the latest installation at the venue.

The pitch has also been relaid, a new PA system is due to be installed and various upgrades have been made inside the club's West Stand, which is set to have a hotel and conference centre adjoined to it later in the year.

However, the East Stand will not be completed in time for the Cobblers' opening game of the 2014/15 season at home to Mansfield Town.

"It is an exciting time, but like with any building project there is some uncertainty over exact timings," club chairman David Cardoza told

"I am sure supporters will understand that any change on this scale brings with it a short period of disruption but I am sure they will agree this is a small price to pay for the facilities we are delivering."

The club expect the seats to be installed in the East Stand prior to their home match with Shrewsbury Town on 23rd August.
