The future home of the San Francisco 49ers will be called the Levi's Stadium.
The 49ers and Levi Strauss & Co came to a $220m, 20-year naming rights deal for the team's new $1.2b stadium in Santa Clara, which they will move to for the 2014 season.
The proposal submitted to the Santa Clara Stadium Authority for approval by the San Francisco-based apparel company also has an option to extend the deal for an additional five years.
Upon announcing the agreement at Levi's Plaza in San Francisco, 49ers CEO Jed York commented: “Levi's jeans were designed for the 49ers during the gold rush. It was a good fit for them then and it's a good fit today.”
The multi-million dollar deal will not only help fund the stadium costs, but it will likely give a boost to the 49ers' hopes of hosting a Super Bowl – they are bidding for the February 2016 and 2017 showpiece events.
