LAND FOR BRISTOL ARENA SITE TRANSFERRED TO LOCAL COUNCIL

The land for the £91 million entertainment arena in Bristol has been formally  handed over by the government to the city council.

The 12,000-seater venue is due to open in 2017, on the former diesel depot sit next to Bristol Temple Meads railway station.

The scheme will also see £5.4m of government support across the Enterprise Zone which will create 2,700 new jobs along with up to 300 new homes.

Last week, Populous - who designed, amongst other venues, London’s Olympic Stadium, the Eden Project, and Yankee Stadium in New York - was chosen to design the Arena.

Construction work at the site is due to begin in 2016.
