The reconstruction of the Georgi Asparuhov Stadium has successfully begun.

The main stand of Levski Sofia's Georgi Asparuhov Stadium was demolished at 4:30pm local time on Sunday using over 300 kilos of explosives.

The demolition marked the start of the complete reconstruction of the stadium that was announced by Levski officials in 2012.

The planned work will take place in three stages; the west and south stands are to be completed for the club's 100th anniversary in May 2014. The east stand will be finished by 2015 and the north stand is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
