Fresh details about plans for Everton's new stadium could be unveiled within months.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has revealed to the Liverpool Echo that an announcement will be made in the coming months, as Toffees bosses remain in discussion with city leaders.

Asked about Liverpool council’s ongoing talks with Everton, Anderson said: “We are having positive discussions and I think that within a matter of a few months we will have an announcement to make – I’m sure that will be before the start of the new season.

“There are still one or two sites we are working through. We are supporting them as much as we can and we are meeting more or less on a weekly basis.”

The Premier League side have been considering a relocation away from Goodison Park - their home since its opening in 1892 - for several years.

Previous proposals have been plagued by setbacks, including plans to build a 55,000-seater ground in the Kings Dock area which were rejected more than a decade ago.

A new stadium in Kirby was also vetoed by the Government back in 2009.
