The Saxon Stadium is set to reopen this October following extensive restoration work.
The stadium was badly damaged by flash floods which hit New Zealand’s South Island in April 2013, with mud and water covering much of the arena.
But, with work said to be progressing well, it is hoped the stadium will reopen in time for the South Island Masters Games, which take place later this year.
A local Council spokeswoman was, however, less confident the work would be completed on time.
She said: “It must be stated that these targets are only anticipated, and there are a number of factors which could delay the completion of works.”
