Construction on a world-class 50,000-seater stadium in Jakarta will start next year.
The Jakarta city governor has announced the $109 million stadium will be built at the BMW Park in Sunter, North Jakarta, Indonesia, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
Governor Joko Widodo said: “We’ll begin preparations for the construction next year, and expect to complete it in two years. It will be a world-class stadium.
“The stadium will be able to accommodate 50,000 people. We expect it to be an icon of Jakarta.”
The venue will become the new home of Persija football club who have been homeless since their Menteng Stadium was demolished in 2006.
