Minas Arena, the company responsible for renovating the Mineirao Stadium, has been fined $500,000 for the poor condition the stadium was in for its reopening.
A host venue of Confederations Cup matches in June, the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games was overcome with a series of issues when the venue was reopened over the weekend, resulting in the state government of Minas Gerais announcing the fine.
The issues at the Belo Horizonte's Mineirao Stadium included large queues due to ticketing problems, traffic jams because of narrow and poorly marked parking entrances, while toilets lacked lighting and food and drink vending areas were not opened.
Minas Arena is responsible for administration of the two and half year $328 million project. Officials acknowledged there were errors and said they would work to correct them.
