BURY TOWN’S NEW STADIUM PLANS DASHED

Non-league outfit Bury Town have been dealt a blow after it was confirmed plans for a new ground would not be going ahead.

Currently based at Ram Meadow, the club had hoped to move to a new venue in Bury St Edmunds, but the Suffolk FA have withdrawn their funding of the plans.

Instead, the council hope to offer an improved lease to their current ground, and assist in improving its facilities, after it decided to not to offer the proposed £250,000 sum for a move to Moreton Hall.

Russell Ward, chairman of the Ryman League Premier Division club, said: "I am obviously disappointed but I appreciate that every effort has been made to deliver the Moreton Hall project.

"While that may not be achievable, I am encouraged by the conversations that I have had with St Edmundsbury.”
