BRENTFORD'S LIONEL ROAD PROJECT APPROVED

Brentford have taken a major step towards moving into a new 20,000-seater stadium after their Lionel Road project was given the green light by Hounslow Council on Thursday night.

The scheme – placed between the M4 and Kew Bridge Railway Station - includes the new ground and almost 1,000 residential homes.

The Bees have played at their 12,763-capacity Griffin Park home since 1904, based one mile south of their new venue. It is the only ground in English football to have a pub on each corner of the stadium.

The League 1 side are hoping to move into their new home for the start of the 2016/17 season, but after a decade of deliberation, the plans are now subject to referral to the Mayor of London and the government.
