AS ROMA TO BUILD NEW 52,000-SEATER STADIUM IN ROME

Italian football club AS Roma has announced plans to build a new 52,000-seater stadium over the next few years.

Provisionally labeled ‘Stadio della Roma’, the facility will be able to increase to 60,000 seats for certain occasions.

Building costs for the stadium, which will be situated within the Italian capital, are estimated at €300 million, but surrounding infrastructure is likely to see the price rise much higher.

Scheduled to open for the 2016/17 season, the new venue will be in the Tor di Valle area in the city’s southwest.

The Giallorossi currently share the Stadio Olimpico with rivals Lazio.

Francesco Totti, long-serving Roma striker, told the new stadium's official website: "The Roma fans deserve their own stadium.

"Something personal, something that belongs to them. A stadium that, in reality, makes you tremble."
