Besiktas Football Club plans for a new £103million stadium have been approved by Istanbul’s cultural preservation board.

The club’s current home Fiyapi Inonu Stadium will be demolished at the end of the season to make room for the new 42,000-seater arena. It will include a theatre, a congress centre, a 5-star hotel plus also a large shopping centre.

The club hopes the new complex will generate an annual revenue of around £30million allowing more money to be invested into the team. Besitkas will hold the usage rights of its new facility.

"This is a success that belongs to Besiktas chairman Yildirim Demiroren," said a club spokesman.

The new stadium was designed by HOK Sport architects of Emirates Stadium and the new University of Phoenix Stadium. The Black Eagles will play their matches at various stadiums around Turkey during the construction phase of the new stadium.

It is due to be completed by early 2013.
