FIR PARK DAMAGED BY HIGH WINDS

Motherwell Football Club has called off its home Scottish Premier League match against Dunfermline for safety reasons.

High winds in the North Lanarkshire area have caused structural damage to Fir Park stadium. Gales of up to 90mph have battered central Scotland causing damage to buildings and disrupting transport.

Motherwell chief executive Leeann Dempster said: "We were obviously desperate to get the game on but there has been significant structural damage to the ground. That could have posed a risk to supporters so with that in mind, we have agreed with Dunfermline to postpone the fixture and replay it at the earliest opportunity."

The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 24 January with a 1945 GMT kick-off.
