Brentford Football Club’s hopes for a new stadium look to be fading after partner Barratt Homes withdrew from the Lionel Road project this week.

The property development company has said the scheme is no longer viable due to the current financial situation. However the club still has the option to buy the site if the situation develops but chairman Greg Dyke has not ruled out searching for a different venue altogether.

"It is clearly disappointing news, but we are looking for an alternative partner and funding," he said. "We are also looking at alternative sites although we are still hopeful that we will eventually build a new stadium at Lionel Road."

Brentford has played at their current home Griffin Park since 1904.
