Discussions for Newport County Football Club to play at Rodney Parade rugby ground will continue into next week after the deadline was extended.
The 11,000-capacity stadium is home to regional rugby's Newport Gwent Dragons and Welsh Premiership side Newport Rugby Football Club.
"After further talks today between our directors and the representatives of Newport Rugby Football Club and Newport Gwent Dragons, it has been jointly agreed that more time is essential to continue these complex negotiations,” a club statement read. “We are all aware of the necessity to abide with the rules and regulations of our governing body - the Football Conference, whose deadline for an acceptable ground lease or contract is Thursday 31 May 2012. This date cannot be compromised.
The club have stated that considerable progress has been made through the current negotiation, with all parties keen to achieve the ultimate ambition of a triple ground share. However the complexity of three clubs sharing one venue means that there are additional criteria to be met.
“All parties must ensure that the final agreement fits with their constitution, and it is to this end that all parties are working hard to try and obtain that goal,” the statement continued. “It is now likely that negotiations will continue early into next week.”
