Construction on Aberdeen Football Club's new £38m home looks set to begin early 2012 after the preferred contractor was announced.

Barr Construction, which has recently completed the basketball arena for London 2012, has been chosen as the preferred contractor. The 21,000-seater stadium has already received council approval and could be ready as early as the 2013/14 season.

The new venue at Loirston Loch in the south of Aberdeen, will replace the club’s current home at Pittodrie which is being sold for housing. However, the project has not been completely plain sailing as it was subject to 140 objections from local communities and groups concerned about the environmental impact of the stadium.
