WIGAN TO STAGE WORLD CLUB CHALLENGE

Wigan's DW Stadium has been announced as the venue for the 2011 World Club Challenge between the Warriors and Australian champions St George Illawarra.

Despite rumours of a switch to Australia, the annual clash of the champions will be held in England making it the 12th successive year.

It was thought the encounter would be held at Bolton's Reebok Stadium but the DW Stadium has been announced to host the event.

Wigan's first appearance in the World Club Challenge for 17 years will take place on Sunday, February 27, with a 7.15pm kick-off, and organisers are expecting a 24,000 sell-out.

A Wigan Warrior’s spokesman said: "The match is expected to be a mouth-watering clash featuring some of the best players in the world."
