A planning application for Aberdeen Football Club's new home ground has been lodged with the city council.

The Dons hope to build a 21,000-seater stadium and plan to spend £40 million in the construction at Loriston Loch in the south of the city.

Duncan Fraser, chief executive officer of AFC said: "After much hard work and consultation, we are delighted to submit a planning application for a stadium that will inspire our fans and the wider community and be a major new attraction for Aberdeen City and Shire.

"The exciting design will create a modern, atmospheric stadium that offers the ultimate match-day experience and signifies the clear ambitions of the club."

Increased pitch dimensions will allow the club to attract further sporting events and concerts.

The pitch will also be fully enclosed on all sides and the continuous bowl and roof design. The whole facility will be lit by a red glow at night.

The stadium will have 26 high level hospitality boxes, hospitality suites and a supporter's bar over-looking the fans walkway. Plans also include a club shop, ticket office, museum and cafe.

A public consultation will consider the application.
