Officials at St Helens Rugby League Football Club have announced that the club will move into their new stadium during the 2011 Super League season.
The club is expected to stage a host of fans' forums next month to showcase the new stadium plans.
This announcement means the Saints will have to find an alternate venue for their home matches at the start of the 2011 campaign with the possibility of playing matches outside of Merseyside which St Helens Chief Executive Tony Colquitt explains:
"It looks in all probability that we may have to play a few games of the 2011 season on the road.
"We have already had discussions with the Rugby Football League who are fully supportive and we will announce more details at the season-ticket holders' forums in February.
"It's been an incredibly complex process, accentuated by the wider economic climate. We will be moving into the new stadium in 2011 and consequently 2010 will be our last season at Knowsley Road.
"While it's exciting times, we also acknowledge that it's only fitting that we celebrate 120 years at Knowsley Road. We will announce a whole series of events early in the new year that will allow all our fans to participate."
